The Most Important Fitness Equipment for your Strength Training Needs

More and more people are adding strength training into their exercise routines. This is because they can burn calories and at the same time sculpt their body. There are several different types of machines that are available on the internet and television. However, it is easy to start off doing strength training in your home without purchasing such expensive fitness equipment.

If you are serious about doing strength training the first thing that you will need is a good dumbbell set. You don't need to buy every single weight because you may not end up using all of them. Start off purchasing a few sizes so you can be sure that you get a good workout. You want to start with a lower weight, generally around five pounds. You will also want to purchase the next few sizes up so you can increase your weight as you need to.

The second thing that you will want is a barbell set. This allows you to get more variety in your workout as well as allow you to lift heavier weights. You will want to purchase a bar, a variety of weights and the clips to keep the weight in place on the bar. Start of purchasing lower weight discs. As you increase your strength you can simply add more of these discs. Eventually you will want to purchase larger weight discs. You may also want to consider purchasing a stand for the bar especially if you want to do bench presses or squats.

The third item that you may want to consider purchasing is a weight bench. You can get a bench that lies flat or one that can adjust. You can also get a bench that has a large step that can be raised or lowered by adding or removing risers. The nice thing about this is it can also be your step for step aerobics.

If you are going to be using all of this equipment you will want to get weight lifting gloves to protect your hands. This will help keep the weights from slipping and help prevent calluses on your hands.

If you travel a lot you will want to consider getting resistance bands so you can carry them with you wherever you go. You can store these at home, in your office or in your suitcase. It is great to have these when you are on the road and won't have access to fitness equipment.

If you want to get the most out of your strength training then you need to be increasing the weights on a regular basis. You will also want to add a variety of exercises in your routine so you can be sure you are targeting each muscle group. You will be able to get the most exercises available if you purchase the free weights, a barbell set and a weight bench. This way you will be able to maximize the workout that you are getting and increase your strength in all of your muscle groups.
