A Quick Guide to Purchasing Used Fitness Equipment

Most fitness equipment nowadays is very expensive. If you have considered buying a treadmill, elliptical trainer, weight lifting machine or an exercise bike you know they can cost up to thousands of dollars. However, most people still want to have a piece of equipment because they think it is the best way for them to get in shape. If this sounds like you then you should consider purchasing a used exercise machine. You will be able to get a high quality piece of equipment for a fraction of the price. If you have some knowledge about the equipment that you want then you will be able to walk into a store and identify what is a good purchase and what will not be.

There are two main places where you can buy used fitness equipment. You can buy directly from the individual from the newspaper classifieds or even on eBay. Most of these people decide that they won't be using their equipment anymore so they might as well make some money from it. However, they may also be the people who use their equipment so much that they are selling this one to purchase a new one. Before you buy from an individual seller be sure to see the equipment first so you know how worn out it is.

If you found the advertisement in the newspaper then you are easily able to go to he person's house to look at it and try it out. If you go to look at the equipment watch out for a few things. First, make sure that it has all of the parts. In addition be sure that there is no rust or worn out spots. Turn on the machine and use it for five or ten minutes to make sure that it runs properly. Be aware that many pieces of equipment don't have warranties and that replacement parts for older brands and models can be difficult to find. Be sure that you know where the original owner bought the equipment from so if you ever have problems you can contact the store directly.

If you are looking online for a piece of equipment then you won't be able to see the actual equipment. However, you can check out the rating system that is used and find out if other buyers have been happy with the products this seller has sold. Be sure to get plenty of pictures and look for signs of wear and tear.

Many places are now selling remanufactured or refurbished fitness equipment. Many gyms like to simply lease their equipment so they can update their equipment on a regular basis. Then the manufacturer restores the equipment and sells it for a fraction of the original price. However, there is a problem with the lack of standardized quality control. Some companies will strip down the unit to the frame and do a great job testing the machine and making sure everything works. However, some companies may simply repaint it and call it good as new. Be sure to check around for information about a manufacturer before you decide to buy refurbished fitness equipment from them.
